| The U. A. Whitaker Biomedical Engineering Building (BME) is home for the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering located on the Georgia Tech campus. BME is believed to be the nation's first joint department, in cooperation with Emory University's School of Medicine, linking a public and private university. The department is focused on Cardiovascular Mechanics and Biology, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering, Neuroengineering, Biomedical Imaging and Informatics, Cellular and Biomolecular Engineering. The facility compliments existing Bioengineering and Biosciences buildings to facilitate interaction of its biomedical engineering faculty. Divided into two wings, it is joined by a common connector. The administrative wing will house office space for researchers and administrative staff and the laboratory wing has teaching and research laboratories along with classrooms and support spaces. Laboratory spaces reflect the flexible open lab module design concept allowing easy access between the many disciplines. | |
